Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Government Dental College & Hospital, Mumbai organized 1 day workshop on “Infection Control and Sterilisation” dated 20th Oct 2023.
An Infection Control and Sterilization workshop included a set of policies and procedures designed to prevent the spread of infection in healthcare settings. This included the sterilization of medical instruments and equipment, as well as other measures such as hand hygiene, isolation precautions, and environmental cleaning.
Sterilization:
All medical instruments and equipment that come into contact with patient tissues or body fluids must be sterilized before reuse. This can be done using various methods, such as autoclave, ethylene oxide gas sterilization, or hydrogen peroxide gas plasma sterilization.
Hand hygiene:
Hand hygiene is one of the most important ways to prevent the spread of infection in healthcare settings. Healthcare workers should clean their hands thoroughly with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub before and after patient care, and after contact with any potentially contaminated surfaces.
Isolation precautions:
Isolation precautions are used to prevent the spread of infectious diseases from patients to other patients, healthcare workers, and visitors.
Environmental cleaning:
All surfaces in healthcare settings, including floors, walls, and furniture, must be cleaned and disinfected regularly to prevent the spread of infection.
