Youth Tobacco Prevention Program and a Tobacco Awareness and Screening Camp conducted on 24th November 2023

The Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology, Government Dental College and Hospital, Mumbai, under the leadership of Dean Dr. Wasundhara Bhad and vision and guidance of Prof. & Head Dr. Tabita Joy and Asso. Prof. Dr. Manisha Ahire initiated an outreach program. – Youth Tobacco Prevention Program and conducted a Tobacco Awareness and Screening Camp for High School students of St. Paul’s School, Malwani, Malad for 350 students on 24th November 2023.

The Principal and Management trustee of the school Mr. Rajkumar Rao and Vice Principal Mr. Vijay Rao took the initiative in meticulously organising this camp at St. Paul’s High School, Malad. The screening for tobacco-related lesions was done by Faculty – Dr. Tabita Joy, Dr. Yogita Adhane, Dr. Priyanka Pachpande and Post Graduate Students – Dr. Harsha Karva, Dr. Shrijha G., Dr. Ishu Singhal, Dr. Garima Dixit and Dr. Amal B.J. The camp started at 09:30 am after a brief inaugural ceremony where different school staff members felicitated each team member from GDC &H, Mumbai with a bouquet and a commemorative memento. After the inauguration of the camp, the team members visited individual classrooms of students from classes IX and X for an interactive session on youth tobacco prevention.

Commemorative bookmarks were distributed to the students and students were encouraged to take a pledge to never indulge in tobacco habits. Overall the camp included screening and counselling of 340 high school students with a youth tobacco prevention program aimed at creating awareness of the harmful effects of tobacco at a school level so that the students are protected from the various ailments consequential to tobacco habit.
