National Oral Pathologist Day

Under the guidance and support of our beloved Dean, Dr.Wasundhara Bhad Patil mam , Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology , Government Dental College & Hospital, Mumbai has celebrated “National Oral Pathologist Day” on 26th February 2024.

It received participation from staff, Post- graduate students and undergraduate students. Keynote lecture was given by Dr. J. V Tupkari Sir. Followed by Panel Discussion on “Changing Trends in Oral Pathology” by Dr. Vinay Hazare sir, Dr. Suresh Barpande sir and Dr. J. V Tupkari sir. Panel Discussion was attended by Dr. Daftary sir and hosted by Dr. Smriti Khanna. Beautiful Rangoli was made by Interns.

Various competitions were held like soap carving, slogan writing, word search, DADH Bingo,Cross word and reels and meme Competition. Prize distribution was done by Dr. Vivek Pakhmode sir and Dr. Wasundhara Bhad ma’am. The program was well coordinated by the staff of Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology.

A total of 260 patients were screened, 86 teeth were restored and scaling was done for 47 patients

National Periodontist day

Under the able guidance and support of our beloved Dean, Dr.Wasundhara Bhad Patil mam , Department of Periodontics & Dental Hygiene, Government Dental College & Hospital, Mumbai has celebrated “*National Periodontist Day*” in collaboration with Indian Society of Periodontology on 23th February 2024. It received participation from staff, Clinical Assistants, Post- graduate, Under Graduate and Dental Hygienist students. Beautiful Rangoli was made by Clinical Assistants and Post Graduate students.

A rally was organized at 9.30 from Pd mello road to Nagar chowk near Chatrapati Maharaj Terminals.Tooth brush and toothpaste were distributed among the people. A street play was enacted to create oral health wareness among the masses at nagar chowk. It received appreciation from the people who received oral health information.

Demonstration on How to Use Fire Extinguisher

Under the guidance of respected Dean Mam, the Disaster Management Committee of Government Dental College & Hospital Mumbai, organized a workshop on “How to Use Fire Extinguisher During Emergency”.

This workshop was conducted on 17th February 2024 at 2 pm in Government Dental College premises near college’s front gate.
The demonstration was given by Mr. Farhan & Mr. Pasha from M/s Firebrake Fire Services. They explained in detail about fire extinguisher followed by hands on- how to use the Fire Extinguisher During Fire situation.

This workshop was attended by respected Dean Dr. Wasundhara Bhad Patil mam along with all Head of the Departments, teaching and non-teaching staff and students of the institute.

This workshop was arranged by Dr.Ramdas Palekar (Disaster management committee- Fire) of GDCH, Mumbai.

Government Dental college and Hospital Mumbai Celebrated the birth anniversary of one of the greatest warriors and visionaries in Indian history, Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, on 19th February 2024.

we are reminded of his indomitable spirit, unwavering courage, and profound wisdom.

In attendance were teaching and non-teaching staff, students of the institute. A heartfelt speech was presented by the students, which garnered a commendatory response.

Yoga and Wellness Program – 17th February 2024

Under the guidance & with the support of Dean Madam Dr.Wasundhara Bhad Patil , Department of Periodontology & Dental Hygiene, Government Dental College & Hospital Mumbai ,organized a “Yoga and Wellness” program on 17th February 2024 from 7:00am-8:00am. It was co-ordinated by Dr Sangeeta Barot and Dr Nilofar Attar .The yoga session was instructed by Aditi Sanghai (Intern) & Rajat Kolhatkar (DH 1st year) who are trained in Yoga and have been practicing Yoga since last 5 years. Also the final year students Prachi Gajre n Shreyansh Gupta demonstrated excercise on how to overcome stress n fatigue due to occupational hazard.

The event received Energetic & Enthusiastic participation of 61 participants from students, interns, & staff. Our main motto was to inspire a healthier life using the transformative power of yoga. It helps us to stick to yoga practice and eventually achieves fitness goals. Let’s all embrace the practice of yoga and make it a part of our daily lives.

White Coat Ceremony 2024

On 14 Feb and 15 Feb 2024, under the able guidance of Reverent Dean mam Dr Wasundhara Bhad and in the presence of Vice Dean Academics Dr Dimple Padawe, Vice Dean Administration Dr Jyoti Temburne and Eminent Chief Guest Dr Srivalli Natrajan Dean , MGM Dental College, White coat Ceremony program was Conducted for 3rd yer Students.

The Ceremony attendees also included all HOD of respective Deparments and many staff members from various departments.

*Ceremony was followed by 1st days Scientific session*
Speakers for the session were Dr Dimple Padawe and Dr Akshaya Banodkar.
Followed by Jan Jagruti Session by Mumbai Police.

The second day scientific session was on time and was started by Dr Tabita Joy, followed by Dr Sonali Kadam Madam and Dr Sumeet Ghonmode for morning session. Afternoon session was started by Dr. Kishore Sapkal followed by Dr Suryakant Powar. Feedback was taken from the atendees orally on the dias and testimonial were recorded. Dean mams concluding Addressal was summative of both days.
Validatory function was concluded with Certificate distribution.

International Oral & Maxillofacial Day

Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Government Dental College &Hospital, Mumbai celebrated ‘International Oral & Maxillofacial day’ 13th February 2024.

1. Patient awareness seminars were conducted for dental patients in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, This seminars aimed to increase awareness among dental patients about the services offered by the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Department. The goal was to educate patients on the diverse range of conditions treated by oral and maxillofacial surgeons, alleviate potential anxieties, and foster better understanding and communication between patients and the department.

Seminars Program:
Welcome and Introduction: A brief introduction to the department, its team, and the seminar objectives.
Presentation: Informative presentations covering:
• The scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery, including common conditions treated (e.g., facial trauma, jaw tumors, wisdom teeth extraction, cleft lip and palate, dental implants).
• Different surgical procedures performed and their benefits.
• Importance of early diagnosis and timely intervention.
• Pre-operative and post-operative care considerations.
Interactive Q&A Session: Patients were encouraged to ask questions and clarify any doubts they had about the department, treatments, or specific procedures.

Closing Remarks: Recap of key points and resources available for further information.

Feedback and Recommendations: Attendees appreciated the clear and informative presentation, interactive format, and opportunity to ask questions.

2. Quiz competition was conducted for dental students : Basic Concepts in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
This quiz competition aimed to assess and enhance the knowledge of dental interns regarding core principles and procedures in oral and maxillofacial surgery. The goal was to promote active learning, friendly competition, and solidify their understanding of crucial surgical concepts.

Competition Format:
Preparation: A list of relevant topics and potential questions was prepared based on the intern’s curriculum and learning stage.
Teams: Interns were divided into groups to encourage collaboration and discussion.
Rounds: The competition consisted of multiple rounds, each focusing on specific areas of oral and maxillofacial surgery:
Multiple Choice Questions: Testing basic knowledge and facts.
Image Identification: Recognizing clinical presentations and surgical procedures.
Open ended questions.

The Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics organized a workshop on “Rotary endodontics for Interns”

The Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics organized a workshop on “Rotary endodontics for Interns” to enhance the knowledge and proficiency. Dr. Manoj Ramugade, and Dr. Shaili Mehta, explained detailed step-by-step procedures in endodontics, covering materials, and advancements in technologies as well . The program included discussions on managing varied tooth anatomies and complications through hands-on workshop. Participants gained valuable take-home messages to enhance their clinical practice in the field of endodontics.

In summary, the workshop empowered young dental practitioners, breaking barriers and improving their endodontic skills. The lecture and hands-on provided various tips for better understanding the management of complex root canal cases. Interested students registered for the program, and Dr. Abrar Sayed, Professor and Head of the department delivered a vote of thanks, concluding the event.

Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics organized a CDE program on ‘Rubber dam’

Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics organized a CDE program on ‘Rubber dam’ – 29th September, 2023. A Continuing Dental Education (CDE) program on rubber dam isolation was conducted to educate dental professionals on the importance and techniques of using rubber dams in various dental procedures.

Dr. Manoj Ramugade(Associate Professor),Dr. Vignesh R(MDS),Dr. Shaili Mehta(MDS),Dr. Wendy Lobo(MDS)Dr. Kiran Panzade(MDS) addressed the following key aspects: Introduction to Rubber dam isolation , indications and limitations, basic armamentarium, various techniques of rubber dam placement, clinical applications variations in rubber dam placement for different cases

In summary, the CDE program on rubber dam isolation is a valuable educational opportunity for dental professionals. It not only underscores the significance of rubber dams in dental practice but also equips participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to implement effective isolation techniques for improved patient care and infection control. This program is a testament to the commitment of dental professionals to delivering high-quality, safe, and patient-centered dental care.

Interested students were provided were registered in the CDE program. Vote of thanks was given by Dr. Abrar Sayed and the program was concluded.

Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics organized yoga and wellness program on 4th November 2023. 2nd year BDS students, interns, post graduate students and staff attended the session.

 

Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics arranged a program for senior citizens on occasion of “Senior Citizen Day”

Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics arranged a program for senior citizens on occasion of “Senior Citizen Day” on 21st August, 2023. The program was planned to raise awareness about oral health care for senior citizens. Mr. Iqbal Shaikh (ACP, retd.) was invited for the program. He explained about the challenges faced by senior citizens in accessing health care facilities and about ways health care professionals can help them in this regard. Dr. Abrar Sayed gave a lecture teaching students about age related changes in oral cavity and management of the same. A separate working section was reserved for delivering operative treatment for senior citizens.

 

Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics organized a lecture on ‘NIRMAN’

Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics organized a lecture on ‘NIRMAN’ – A Youth Development Initiative on 29th August, 2023. The Program was conducted to introduce students about the NIRMAN initiative and its various frameworks and educational workshops.

Mr. Prathamesh Dhadse (MBA) (Project coordinator- NIRMAN) was invited as a guest speaker for the program. He explained about the idea of NIRMAN, how it is helping sensitize youth towards various societal issues, gave a brief idea about its workshops and how the initiative is helping in flourishing the youth in their self-development.

Dr. Abrar Sayed gave a lecture on youth motivation and development, encouraging students to participate personally and professionally for betterment of society. Interested students were provided with admission forms for enrollment. Vote of thanks was given by Dr. Abrar Sayed and the program was concluded.
