“A few minutes of meditation during the day can be a great way to get rid of stress that accumulates daily, in both, the body and the mind. Yoga postures, Pranayama and meditation are effective a technique to release stress. Meditation is relaxation and rejuvenates the body and mind.”
With this aim in mind, a special session was organized by the Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, Government Dental College and Hospital, Mumbai on 21st October 2023. The students, teaching and non-teaching staff participated (30 Nos.) with full interest, enthusiasm and eagerness. The session started at 7:30 a.m. in the front porch area of the college.
Dr. Bhavitha Arackal welcomed the participants to the session and introduced them to Dr. Malcolm Printer, the meditation instructor. Dr. Malcolm Printer, Former Head of Vipassana Research Institute led the workshop by explaining the importance of meditation and its various applications in personal and work life settings. Dr. Malcolm introduced the Anapana technique to the participants and briefly described its significance. The meditation session lasted for 20 minutes and was followed by a question-and-answer interaction. The participants had multiple queries which were addressed satisfactorily by Dr. Malcolm. The meditation was resumed after the Q & A session for another 10 minutes.
Dr. Malcolm motivated the staff and conveyed the importance of meditation as an integral part of daily life. The session concluded with a vote of thanks to the instructor and participants by Dr. Bhavitha Arackal. Dr. Suryakant Powar, Head of Department also joined to applaud and thank Dr. Malcolm for conducting the workshop and to the students and staff for their active participation. Dr. Suryakant Powar further awarded the instructor a certificate of appreciation for his cooperation and efforts in actively leading the workshop. The program ended at 8:45 am and the staff resumed their work in their respective departments.
